Court Grants Preliminary Approval of $4M Settlement in HP Deceptive Pricing Class Action

Published on: February 25th, 2025

As reported by Bloomberg Law (subscription), Judge P. Casey Pitts of the Northern District of California issued an order granting preliminary approval of a proposed $4 million settlement in a class action brought by EDGE on behalf of consumers who purchased products on HP’s website at a discount. The suit claims HP advertised inflated strikethrough prices and discounts on its website that artificially increased demand for its products.

As part of the proposed settlement, HP agreed to contribute $4 million to a non-reversionary settlement fund. The class consists of individuals nationwide who purchased HP desktop computers, laptops, mice, and keyboards between June 5, 2021, and October 28, 2024, that were offered at a discount more than 75% of the time the products were offered for sale during that same period. Class members who submit valid claims are expected to receive a cash benefit ranging from $10 to $100.

EDGE filed the class action with co-counsel Capstone Law APC in October 2021. Next Steps: The Court will set a hearing date for final settlement approval. The Court will hold a Final Approval Hearing for the proposed settlement on August 21, 2025.
