Judge Grants Final Approval of $4 Million Class Action Settlement against HP

Published on: August 22nd, 2025

On Thursday, Judge Casey Pitts of the Northern District of California granted final approval of a $4 million class action settlement resolving consumers’ claims against HP alleging that HP inflated the advertised reference prices on its website.

Under the terms of the settlement, HP will establish a $4 million fund to resolve the claims of nearly 300,000 consumers. Class members who submitted valid claims will receive cash payments of approximately $15, while those who purchased computers will receive payments of $XX, on average. These amounts exceed the amounts estimated at the preliminary approval stage, reflecting a stronger recovery for consumers than initially projected.

The Court additionally awarded service awards of $5,000 each to the class representatives represented by EDGE and co-counsel Capstone Law, and an attorney-fee award reimbursing class counsel for attorneys’ fees and costs. The settlement administrator will withhold a portion of the fee award until a final accounting of the settlement fund is provided to and approved by the Court.
